Reverse engineering of the RK215 locomotive cylinder block and cylinder head assembly was achieved for the first time in the country, specifically for Heavy Diesel Iran (DESA). This 16-cylinder V-type engine, with dimensions of 1320x1300x2960 mm, underwent full photogrammetry and 3D scanning using a GOM device with an accuracy of 0.02 mm per meter. After modeling in GOINSPECT software, the point cloud file was thoroughly analyzed using color contour maps to ensure model-to-scan alignment, and all modeling errors were rectified. Subsequently, casting models for the cylinder block and cylinder head were designed, preparing both assemblies for foundry production. Notably, the design of the casting core molds was also performed at Abad Deghat Markazi Company. Following the design phase, manufacturing drawings were extracted, incorporating comprehensive dimensional and geometric tolerance analysis.
